Woodsmith was established by Dan Smith and originally specialised in Arboriculture. Being based in Hartfield meant a lot of his clients had rural properties; often with a garden, some trees and a paddock or two. They had a gardener to maintain their garden, an arborist to maintain their trees, hedges and woodland; but were left not knowing who to contact to maintain the rest of their land. As Dan began to build closer relationships with his clients he was able to offer his knowledge of land care to advise and carry out the maintenance that wasn’t covered by gardeners. From there Dan’s passion to provide his clients a hassle-free approach to their outside spaces began. It has driven him to not only grow his knowledge but to create a small team of great people who each shine in their own specialist areas too. What started with tree care naturally evolved into becoming our clients' main port of call any time they need advice and assistance with their outside spaces, and Woodsmith carrying out extensive and ongoing projects throughout our client’s properties. Being entrusted to advise and execute our client’s concepts year after year is truly an honour for Dan and the rest of the Woodsmith team.

We feel it is important to promote the basic industry standards, as often clients are not familiar with what to expect from a contractor, especially a tree surgeon. WHO IS DAN?
BEFORE WOODSMITH...
Having grown up on a farm in Hartfield, East Sussex, Dan has always been passionate about the countryside. He attended Plumpton Agricultural College; where he qualified in Forestry and Arboriculture. After finishing college Dan joined a local tree surgery company where he further advanced his skills in arboriculture and a passion for trees and landscapes. After several years he transitioned into developing Woodsmith.
